Josef Blass became a professor at Bowling Green State University after earning his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1970. Here, he directed the actuarial program and assisted in key letter rulings for the IRS. Eventually, his work helped lead to the first 401(k) offered by Fidelity Investments, Dreyfus, a subsidiary of BNY Mellon Investment Management, and Travelers Insurance.
